Company Earns V3 Silver Level Employer Certification
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. August 8, 2013 – SHINE Systems & Technologies (SHINE), an innovation and analytics leader based in Charlottesville and the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia (UVa) sponsored a Virginia Values Veterans (V3) small business training day on August 7. The event was presented by TMG out of Williamsburg and the Virginia Department of Veteran Services. Approximately 75 attended the meeting representing many small businesses and enterprises from the Charlottesville area. Speakers included Senator Bryce Reeves, TMG founder and President Joe Barto, Bob Bruner, the Dean of the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, and SHINE President Jeff Thomas.
The V3 program trains Virginia businesses to recapitalize their workforce by taking advantage of the talented men and women who are transitioning out of or who have already transitioned from the United States military. The initiative presents an innovative new strategy for reducing veteran unemployment with an overall goal of empowering Virginia businesses to create their own veteran acquisition and retention support program based on industry best practices and proven recruiting methods.
Employers also have the option to become V3 certified. The bronze level certification involves completing an assessment and pledging to hire and retain a percentage of new employees who are vets. Once an employer has been certified at the bronze level and has successfully hired the pledged amount, silver level certification can be requested. SHINE Systems is proud to announce that it has not only met its pledged amount of veteran hires but has far exceeded its goal. Having pledged to hire 26 veterans, SHINE Systems went on to hire 48 former servicemen and women which means that 45% of SHINE Systems employees are former military and allowed the company to achieve V3 silver level certification. SHINE President Jeff Thomas was presented with a plaque at the conference, appointing SHINE as a V3 Silver level employer and a charge to retain its veteran new hires.
Thomas is extremely proud of SHINE’s commitment to veterans and the success they have brought to the company. “We have seen tremendous accomplishments in the last year, and I have no doubt that a big part of that is due to the veterans we’ve hired,” Thomas remarked. “The silver level certification is a huge achievement for us, and we look forward to reaching our next goal of 10 more veteran hires in the next year.”
