SHINE partnered with PVCC to offer camp

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. August 22, 2013 – SHINE Systems & Technologies (SHINE), an innovation and analytics leader based in Charlottesville, recently partnered with Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) to host a five day summer course called CSI Charlottesville for middle school children. Students, aged 10-14, were introduced to the world of forensic investigation by learning how to collect and examine evidence as well as participate in hands-on scenarios and exercises.  SHINE Systems instructors taught students the science of fingerprints, fibers, DNA, blood spatter, how to properly question a witness, and then how to document and process key pieces of evidence left at a crime scene. The class featured a novel interactive approach to ensure students were constantly involved and learning.

CSI Charlottesville was held the week of July 29-August 2 on the PVCC campus. It was taught by SHINE Directors Greg Pitsenberger (Director of Biometrics) and Erik Berg (Director of Identity Intelligence Solutions) and assisted by several other SHINE Systems employees. The class was held as part of College4Kids (http://www.pvcc.edu/instructional_divisions/workforce_services/piedmont_futures/career_academies.php) camps and courses which help to expose kids to different types of careers.
