CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. February 29, 2012 – SHINE Systems & Technologies recently joined forces with George Mason University’s Mason Enterprise Center (MEC) in an effort to support the Virginia Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) network. The partnership marks an important step in assisting Virginia’s entrepreneurs, specifically ones that commercialize innovations in two industry sectors: Clean Technologies, and Modeling & Simulation.

“The SBDC Network has always helped businesses in Virginia, but up until now, they have not had the resources to assist businesses in the areas of innovation and technology,” says Dr. Terry Woodworth, SHINE Chief Scientist. According to Dr. Woodworth, the Virginia SBDC Network has received a grant from the Small Business Administration allowing them to branch out their services to entrepreneurs across the Commonwealth.

The Virginia SBDC Network used its funding to create a Pilot Program designed to assist any Virginia business, entrepreneur, university, or research center who work in the areas of Clean Technologies and Modeling & Simulation. SHINE will add connections and resources to identify and engage new clients throughout Virginia, specifically through the use of an adapted version of its patented Patent/Technology Exploitation System (PATES™) methodology.

“SHINE’s experts will apply PATES™ to provide free Client Market Assessments to a wide array of clients,” says Jeff Thomas, SHINE President and creator of PATES™. “It will be of great value for the entrepreneurs that participate.”

The Pilot Program will accept 45 clients from each of the two industry sectors to receive the free Client Market Assessment (CMA) for their innovations.  As with the original PATES™ methodology, subject matter experts will offer clients with a summary, overall grade, SWOT analysis, and recommended next steps from each assessment. Based on the CMA results, a smaller group of clients will then be selected to receive additional customized counseling to get their innovations to the market. SHINE will provide personalized roadmaps to the clients, enabling them to create new ventures, fund research and development, raise capital, and create new jobs.

SHINE will engage the Pilot Program throughout the remainder of 2012 with a focus toward stimulating our economy with new ventures.  “We are looking forward to this opportunity to assist the SBDC network,” says Dr. Woodworth. “We’re eager to provide support and value to these new and important industries.”
