SHINE Achieves SBA-Certified HUBZone Status
Small businesses often find competition with large corporations difficult, but with the certification SHINE Systems is now eligible to receive HUBZone-favored contracts. “With the HUBZone certification, I see great opportunities for SHINE Systems in the future. We will be able to compete against larger government contractors while still maintaining our status as a small business,” says Jeff Thomas, President of SHINE Systems.
HUBZones are areas designated by the SBA to encourage economic development in distressed regions that lack sufficient utilization, income, or employment opportunities. The zones range from urban areas to rural communities and vary in size from only a few square miles to as large as an entire county.
Thomas states that the HUBZone certification will not only benefit SHINE but the local and regional communities as well. “Located in Charlottesville, SHINE’s primary goal as a HUBZone certified small business is to give back to the business community. Since our principal office is located in a HUBZone and many of our employees reside in HUBZone areas, the local and regional communities are integrated into SHINE’s everyday life. We plan to expand this community integration in the future.”
