SHINE Employees Will Serve as Role Models for Martinsville Virginia Youth
MARTINSVILLE, VA. October 31, 2013 – In partnership with the Martinsville Chamber of Commerce, SHINE Systems & Technologies employees will help bring the Junior Achievement USA program to Martinsville City Schools. Staff members from the Martinsville office, Office Manager Jon Doss, Marketing Specialist Julie Humble, and Support Specialists Michele LaPrad and Glenda Dean will spend an hour each week for the next seven weeks volunteering with elementary, middle, and high school students.
There are 118 Junior Achievement areas in the US, who partner with their local business communities to offer a variety of programs. In Martinsville, elementary school students will be participating in the Our Nation program which focuses on the science, technology, and math skills that will prepare them for a 21st century job market and make their futures brighter. The It’s My Future program for middle school students provides practical life skills to prepare for a future in the workforce including creating a personal brand and the basic aspects of a job hunt. For high school students, the Be Entrepreneurial program helps students build their own business while still in high school.
Volunteers will work within the sessions provided by Junior Achievement USA. Their role as facilitators is to relate the lessons to their own experiences giving the students real world examples and role models, as well as lead activities to provide hands-on learning.
