Initial Engagement Provides Special Projects Support To Region 2000 Research Hub
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. August 6, 2009 – The Center for Advanced Engineering & Research (CAER, http://region2000.org/the-caer.html) and SHINE Systems & Technologies (SHINE) entered into a Master Services Agreement (MSA) for SHINE to support CAER in the fulfillment of its mission.
An initiative of Virginia’s Region 2000 Partnership, CAER continues successfully to build an industry-focused, knowledge-based research hub for area companies. CAER increases the competitiveness and long-term prospects of core, high wage Region 2000 industries by providing local access to leading university and federal research driving development of innovative products and processes meeting industry needs.
Bob Bailey, CAER Executive Director, leads projects under the MSA and is pleased to establish its partnership with SHINE Systems, “The CAER chose SHINE to help us transition to our next phase of research programs and funding. SHINE’s expertise in technology transfer, project management and innovation were key factors for the choice, along with their experience with state level TBED initiatives.”
SHINE’s first engagement under the MSA is Special Projects Support to include:
- R&D Portfolio Management
- Funding Strategies and Implementation
- Synergistic Collaborations and Partnerships Development
- Reporting
- Meetings and other Support Activities
“CAER’s vision to create a regional industry-focused research hub has moved quickly from concept to reality. I look forward to supporting the success and growth of CAER’s exciting research activities and helping CAER achieve its important goals for the region”, said SHINE Chief Scientist Dr. Terry Woodworth.
SHINE President Jeff Thomas noted “CAER is entering into a very exciting stage of its growth with its expansion and construction of the Center for Safe and Secure Nuclear Energy, the only Center of its kind in this country. We are privileged to be part of this growth and its partnership with the University of Virginia School of Engineering & Applied Science. Its research portfolio continues to yield impactful results addressing industry, education, and workforce needs of Region 2000. SHINE Systems is pleased to engage in this partnership with CAER.”
