Federal Contracting Trends 2016

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – March 4, 2016: In the world of Decision Analytics, trends can change as fast as today’s technology. This is especially true with customers requiring big-data analysis and management. SHINE Systems is committed to keeping a close watch on these trends and adjusting our services and offerings to meet the quickly evolving needs of our customers.

Taking a big-data approach to business is one of the largest Federal Contracting trends of 2016. According to a January article from Government Executive, as the “Internet of Things” continues to gain even more momentum, the interest in and spending to protect data and streamline data operations will reach new heights in 2016. Federal cybersecurity spending has quintupled over the last three years, topping $30 billion in fiscal 2014 alone.

The largest segment, receiving 60 percent of this increased spending, is for a type of data security called “Offensive Cyber.” Government agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security are already embracing the need for data protection as is evident by their recent $1 billion contract with Raytheon to protect and manage all data pertaining to .gov domains.

This new trend of big data combined with transparency initiatives will allow Federal agencies to use analytics to provide agency and government-wide views of where they are spending their money and what assets they need to protect most. Decision Analytics teams, like the ones SHINE leads, can help agencies understand buying patterns, develop better internal data systems, and improve security and bottom lines across the board.

SHINE’s position as a small business allows us to navigate the rapidly expanding big-data analytics and cyber security markets to better serve customers as they work to make the most of their procurement dollar.
